Parish Church of San Cristóbal

El 9 de Juliol de 1800 el Vicari General de l’Arquebisbat de València va crear la parròquia de la Canyada i va instituir a Sant Cristòfol com a patró i titular de la nova parròquia. A partir d’aquesta data va començar la construcció de l’església que avui ostenta el municipi.

Situada al costat de la plaça Major del poble i recentment restaurat tot l’edifici datat del segle XIX, l’Església Parroquial de la Canyada és una de les més especials de la província d’Alacant a causa de que alberga en el seu interior el quadre pintat pel mestre valencià Joaquín Sorolla titulat «Sant Lluís, rei de França» i que va ser restaurat en 1991 per Angel Barros Montero.

Així mateix, la grandesa de l’Església Parroquial de Sant Cristòfol també s’aprecia en cada detall del seu interior, com en l’altar major, recentment recanvi al seu estat original.

Hermitage of Our Lady of Carmen

Hermitage of Our Lady of the Carmen Erected in 1891 on a hill in the slope of the Sanmayor mount of Cañada in honor to the employer of the town, Our Lady of the Carmen, this small hermitage consists of a plant of unique ship in the form of Greek cross, vaults of cannon in the arms and blind dome on pendentives in the cruise.
The hermitage is located in a fenced area with a well-kept garden. On the outside of the hermitage stands the door, an elliptical oculus on it and the bulrush made of solid brick. This hermitage was built thanks to the dedication of the then village priest, José Molla Planes, a Discalced Carmelite known by the name of Padre Salvador, whose effort is recognized in several inscriptions of the hermitage.

The bell has the name «Carmen ¡Cruz Salvadora!» She was baptized by Father Salvador before being placed. During this christening, a coplilla was sung to reflect the work of Father Salvador:

And the one who baptized her
PADRE SALVADOR, they call him »

Ermita de Nostra Senyora del Carme

Ermita de Nostra Senyora del Carme Erigida en 1891 sobre un turó en el vessant de la muntanya Sanmayor de Cañada en honor a la patrona del poble, la Mare de Déu del Carme, aquesta petita ermita consta d’una planta de nau única en forma de creu grega, voltes de canó en els braços i cúpula cega sobre petxines en el creuer.
L’ermita està situada en un recinte tancat amb un cuidat jardí. A l’exterior de l’ermita destaca la porta, un òcul el·líptic sobre ella i l’espadanya realitzada en maó massís. Aquesta ermita es va aixecar gràcies a la dedicació del llavors capellà del poble, José Molla Planes, Carmelita Descalç conegut pel nom de Pare Salvador, l’esforç es veu reconegut en diverses inscripcions de l’ermita.

A la façana de l’ermita destaca la porta, un òcul el·líptic sobre ella i l’espadanya realitzada en maó massís.

La campana té el nom de «Carmen ¡Creu Salvadora!» Va ser batejada pel Pare Salvador abans de ser col·locada. Durant aquest bateig es va cantar una coplilla que recull la tasca del pare Salvador:

«CARMEN ¡CREU SALVADORA!
Posaren a la campana
La van portar a l’ermita
Després de ser batejada
I aquell que la va batejar
PARE SALVADOR, en diuen »

«Amb la Verge a Cañada,
per sempre el Pare Salvador »

Hermitage of San Luis Gonzaga

This chapel is located on the way up to the hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Carmen. It was impelled by the parish priest Rafael Oliver Gomar, who constituted the Congregation of the Sons of San Luis Gonzaga to gather the young people in the moments of prayer and coexistence. The hermitage, in the form of a rotunda with a bench, was planned and directed by the master builder Vicente Castelló Ferrándiz. All the young people of the town collaborated in its construction, who selflessly contributed and carried materials for its construction.

Ermita de Sant Lluís Gonzaga

Esta capilla está situada en la subida a la ermita de Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Fue impulsada por el párroco Rafael Oliver Gomar, quien constituyó la Congregación de los Hijos de San Luis Gonzaga para reunir a los jóvenes en los momentos de oración y convivencia. La ermita, en forma de rotonda con banco corrido, fue planeada y dirigida por el maestro de obras Vicente Castelló Ferrándiz. En su construcción colaboraron todos los jóvenes de la población, que desinteresadamente aportaron y portaron materiales para su edificación.
